NIATx 200

In 2007, funded by a National Institute on Drug Abuse grant, NIATx IMPLEMENTED NIATx 200, which focuses on the adoption of its process improvement services. Fifty treatment providers from four states (Washington, Michigan, Oregon, and New York) have received services that include components of the NIATx Learning Collaborative model.

The NIATx Model

NIATx offers its members a model to use in improving access to and retention in addiction treatment and making process improvement part of their culture. The NIATx model consists of Four Aims, Five Principles, Key Paths to Recovery, and the Learning Collaborative.

The Four Aims
NIATx developed the Four Aims from the research of the Washington Circle, a multi-disciplinary group of providers, researchers, managed care representatives, and public policy makers that developed and pilot-tested a core set of performance measures for addiction treatment serivces.Their research shows that access to and retention in treatment are the greatest predictors of successful recovery.

Five Principles
The five principles that are critical to fostering change emerged from a list of 80 factors examined through research studies conducted in Europe, the United States, and Canada.

Key Paths

The key paths to recovery of the NIATx model help treatment organizations to maximize access to and retention in treatment.

The NIATx Learning Collaborative Model
The NIATx Learning Collaborative Model uses many different member services to share innovative ideas with and among members: Learning Sessions, Interest Circles, Coaching, the NIATx Web site, All-Member Calls, and weekly and monthly electronic newsletters.
