    • IUA-NYCB Trainer Registry Program

Welcome to the IUA-NYCB Trainer Registry Program

The purpose of the Trainer Registry is to establish and maintain a network of qualified trainers and instructors who are recognized as providing relevant and high-quality coursework that prepares candidates for certification and/or recertification as competent and ethical professionals.

Members of the Trainer Registry are eligible to submit coursework to NYCB for approval as foundational training leading to initial certification or for continuing education/professional development for professionals looking to renew their recertification.

The online application form may be used for new applicants seeking membership in the Trainer Registry or for existing/returning members looking to renew their membership.

All active Trainer Registry e-badges have been automatically extended through March 31, 2026.

What are the benefits of NYCB Trainer Registry membership?

Thank you for your interest in joining the IUA-NYCB Trainer Registry Program. We appreciate your application and look forward to reviewing your submission. The NYCB Trainer Registry brings together a community of trainers recognized by our certification program and offers the following benefits:

1. Participation in a statewide network of professional trainers dedicated to advancing training standards across the peer recovery profession, including coaches, advocates, and peer support specialists;

2. Increased visibility through an IUA-NYCB online Registry Member profile featuring a unique QR code per trainer, photo, website links, and contact information;

3. Free, unlimited review of Registry Member coursework and trainings to meet initial or renewal requirements for IUA-NYCB professional certifications;

4. Complimentary listing of approved trainings on IUA-NYCB’s foundational training and certification renewal program webpages;

5. A personalized digital badge verifying training approval status for use on training certificates and promotional materials;

6. Eligibility to apply up to 10 hours of member-delivered training toward renewal of the member’s own peer recovery certifications;

7. Opportunities to collaborate with IUA-NYCB and fellow trainers on issues impacting the quality and delivery of peer recovery training courses; and

8. Regular updates on new developments and policies related to peer recovery certification and training in New York State.

Am I eligible for NYCB Trainer Registry membership?

• Do you have at least sixty (60) hours of experience as a training professional? (Classroom/online courses, not demonstrations.) Direct experience of peer recovery training is not required.

• Do you have knowledge of, or specialized training in, the non-clinical substance use disorder peer recovery role - e.g. have you completed role competence training; are you authorized to deliver standard peer recovery training programs (e.g. CCAR)?

• Do you personally deliver role competence training to individuals seeking to achieve or renew a certification with NYCB? If not, do you plan on adding peer recovery role competence to your training portfolio in the near future?

Direct personal experience of addiction or recovery is not a membership requirement.

If these criteria describe you, you are eligible to apply for membership, and we look forward to welcoming you to the NYCB Trainer Registry.

How do I apply for the NYCB Trainer Registry?

Please read the NYCB Trainer Registry Member Standards of Practice and our eligibility criteria:

  • To apply for membership, please complete and submit the Application Form here.
  • Submit a Reference Letter.

What does NYCB Trainer Registry membership cost?

IUA-NYCB provides two membership options under the NYCB Trainer Registry Program:

One-Year Membership $95.00 Two-Year Membership $175.00

What is a Training Reference Letter?

Training Reference Letter Requirements

To complete your application, you must submit a Training Reference Letter that meets the following criteria:
  • The letter must be written on your referee’s official letterhead, include their professional signature, and be formatted as a PDF. Note: Word documents will not be accepted.
  • The letter must:
    • Clearly state your skills and abilities as a trainer
    • Provide evidence of your competence and capability in training facilitation and delivery
    • Describe a professional relationship between you and the referee of at least six months’ duration
    • Be written by another training professional who has direct experience of your work, preferably as a co-facilitator

Important:

A Training Reference Letter is not:
  • A character reference
  • A recovery reference
Please request your referee to email the signed PDF Training Reference Letter to you directly. You will then upload it as part of your online application. Your application will not be reviewed without a Training Reference Letter.

What if I'm not accepted into the NYCB Trainer Registry?

We work with applicants to support their professional training goals. Applicants who are trainers but do not satisfy all of the membership requirements for the NYCB Trainer Registry at this time are notified in writing of the missing criteria, offered practical suggestions for remediation on a case-by-case basis, and encouraged to reapply as soon as the missing criteria are satisfied. We understand that you may be new to the trainer role, for example, and/or that training delivery only comprises a small part of your professional responsibilities, thereby delaying your ability to build your portfolio.

We will work with you to identify opportunities for developing your training expertise and experience to membership standards. Options may include:

• Identifying a more experienced trainer, possibly within your organization, to act as your mentor • Partnering with an experienced consultant trainer to lead a few trainings with you

• Other options as may be proposed on a case-by-case basis

Can organizations become Trainer Registry members?

No. Membership is for individual trainers only. NYCB Trainer Registry fees are being kept purposefully modest, and trainers may choose to self-pay or be sponsored by their training organization.

NYCB Trainer Registry Members can submit course(s) for Training Approval

Registry membership is required for training approval.  All training for certification applications must be approved.  Approved foundational training listed here.  Approved Continuing Education (CE) listed here.  Listings updated monthly.

Training approval submissions must include authorization from the developer/vendor of your preferred training products.
Trainers submitting CCAR courses must include a copy of their RCP-F.
Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed.

What is the purpose of NYCB Training Approval?

To protect the integrity of NYCB certifications by ensuring trainings (foundational and continuing education) relate to the established competencies/KSAs (knowledge, skills, and abilities) and ethical standards of NYCB certified professionals.

Do my trainings have to be approved?

Yes, to ensure your students qualify for professional certification (CARC, CRPA, CRPA-Provisional, etc.), training completion certificates must display your individualized NYCB training. QR code effective April 1, 2026.

How do I submit my trainings for approval?

1. One submission per course using the current InUnity – NYCB Training Approval Application form. Resubmissions are not required as long as trainers remain a member in good standing, their memberships have not expired, and significant changes in course content or course length (hours) have not occurred.

2. Complete all sections of the submission form and attach requested documents in PDF format only.

3. Confirm course competencies – Your course inventory must identify the relevant CARC and CRPA competencies associated with the learning objectives. Competency lists are available on our homepage.

4. Initial Certifications Trainings – require identification of all competencies/KSAs associated with the CARC and CRPA (27 for CARC; 54 for CRPA). Indicate whether 46 hours of foundational training are delivered in one or two courses (e.g., CCAR Recovery Coach Academy, CCAR Ethical Considerations).

5. Member Benefit – Training approval is a benefit of NYCB Trainer Registry membership but is not automatic or guaranteed.

6. Course Approval – When approved, the course will be added to the listing of approved courses that appear in your individualized QR Code and will remain in effect with the expiration date of your current Registry membership.

7. Certificate requirement – Your NYCB QR code must appear on all training completion certificates for them to count toward NYCB professional certification.

Is there a cost to submit trainings for approval?

Training review is available free-of-charge only to NYCB Trainer Registry members. Each submission is reviewed individually, and approval is not automatic or guaranteed.

Will NYCB accept my training completion certificates?

Yes, only if they include your individualized NYCB QR Code. Third-party certificates (e.g. CCAR) are not accepted.

Will NYCB accept third-party training completion certificates (e.g. CCAR) for certification?

No, only certificates displaying your personalized NYCB QR code will be accepted.

What do these procedures mean for my students?

Students can confirm your Registry membership and verify course approval. Display your individualized NYCB QR code on certificates and marketing materials.
