The Certified Addiction Recovery Coach certification was originally developed in 2012 and is offered exclusively in New York State by the New York Certification Board (NYCB), a project of InUnity Alliance.
NYCB defines a Recovery Coach as anyone committed to promoting recovery from substance use disorder by assisting recoverees to remove barriers to recovery, generating individualized recovery options, and connecting recoverees with recovery support services designed to build recovery capital.
CARC candidates must complete 60-hours of NYCB-approved training specific to the following domains as outlined in the 2012 Job Task Analysis:
- Recovery from Addiction
