NYCB Certification Renewal Process

Continuing education is an essential component of professional growth for all certified peers. It enables individuals to stay current with emerging developments in the field, expand their knowledge and skills, and strengthen their ability to address complex challenges effectively.

To maintain certification, all NYCB-certified professionals must complete NYCB-approved continuing education training.

Please note that the CRPA-Provisional credential is not renewable or extendable. If it expires, you may apply for full CRPA without retaking foundational training. See the “Apply Here” page for the application.

Certified professionals are encouraged to participate in continuing education courses, workshops, and training opportunities that support ongoing professional growth, development, and networking and build upon the foundational competencies acquired through certification. While ethics-related education remains an important area of focus, certificants may select from a broad range of relevant topics that enhance their knowledge and practice.

To encourage lifelong learning while reinforcing key concepts, certificants may repeat courses completed during previous renewal cycles; however, courses may not be counted more than once within the same renewal cycle. Repeated courses are considered refresher training and are intended to strengthen and enhance proficiency in the subject matter.

Foundational training used to qualify for initial certification—including the 30-hour Recovery Coach Academy (or equivalent) and the 46-hour foundational training programs required for initial certification—does not qualify for continuing education credit and may not be applied toward renewal requirements.

CARC Renewal: A total of 18 continuing education hours is required for renewal, of which 3 hours must be in Peer Ethics.

CRPA Renewal: A total of 30 continuing education hours is required for renewal, of which 9 hours must be in Peer Ethics.

Effective July 2026, all CRPA renewal applicants are required to complete 30 hours of NYCB-approved continuing education. This requirement includes a minimum of 9 hours in Peer Ethics.

CRPA-Family: A total of 6 continuing education hours is required in family systems/education for renewal, of which 1 hour must be in cultural competence. Active CRPA certification is required.

VSR (Veteran Supported Recovery): A total of 3 continuing education hours must be completed in VSR-related domains, including Advocacy, Recovery, Military Culture, and Peer Ethics. Click here for approved list.

CRPA–Youth: A total of 6 hours of youth-oriented education training, of which 1 hour must be in cultural competence. Active CRPA certification is required.

Certification Renewal Process

Once continuing education training is complete, applicant must complete an application, upload related continuing education training certificates and remit payment.

Once you are ready, log in to your existing Certemy account: https://nycb.certemy.com/entry/login and submit your application, certificates and payment.

Important:

  • Do not create a new Certemy account. Please utilize your existing account, if you have any challenges: contact support@certemy.com for access assistance.
  • Renewal payments are non-refundable and expire after 1 year from your application date. To confirm your expiration date, please click here to look up your information in the NYCB Professional Registry.
  • All applications must be complete (including payment) to be reviewed.

If your certification has expired, you may still complete the renewal process; however, one of the following late fees will apply:

  • $25 late fee (submitted less than 45 days before expiration and up to 6 months after)
  • $50 late fee (submitted 6–12 months after expiration)
  • $100 renewal fee + $100 late fee (submitted 12+ months after expiration). In addition, candidates must repeat the original foundational training: CARC (60 hours) or CRPA (50 hours), which must be different from the original training: https://www.asapnys.org/ny-certification-board/nycb-approved-training/
