NYCB Certification Renewal Process

Step 1: Complete Approved Renewal Training

Approved training is required for both CARC and CRPA renewals. Only training listed on NYCB-approved lists will be accepted.

CARC: 18 hours total are required

  • 15 hours from approved training lists:
  • Trainer-led options: Click here. Sign up for approved training by going to the Friends of Recovery NY website - click here or contacting trainers directly
  • Conferences & computer-based options: Click here
  • Professional Development: Click here
  • 3 hours of Peer Ethics from the approved options: Click here

CRPA: 28 hours total are required

  • 24 hours from approved training lists (same as CARC)
  • 4 hours of Peer Ethics from the approved options
  • 4 hours MSR (Medication Supported Recovery) if not submitted with original CRPA/CRPA-Provisional

CRPA-Family

  • 6 hours in family systems/education, including 1-hour cultural competence
  • Must have active CRPA certification

VSR (Veteran Supported Recovery)

  • 3 hours in relevant VSR domains (Advocacy, Recovery, Military Culture, Ethics)
  • Click here for the list of approved VSR renewal training

CRPA-Youth

  • 6 hours in youth-oriented education, including 1-hour cultural competence
  • Must have active CRPA certification

CJSR & PSP

  • Training info forthcoming

Note: CRPA-Provisional is not renewable or extendable. If expired, you may apply for full CRPA without retaking foundational training. See the "Apply Here" page for the application.

Step 2: Submit Application and Payment

Once training is complete:

  1. Log in to your Certemy account: https://nycb.certemy.com/entry/login
  2. Submit:
    • Completed application
    • Training certificates
    • Payment

Important:

  • Do not create a new Certemy account. Contact support@certemy.com for access help.
  • Payments are non-refundable and expire after 1 year if renewal process is not completed.
  • Applications must be complete (including payment) for review.
  • In order to confirm your expiration date, please click here to look up your information in the NYCB Professional Registry.

If your certification has expired, you can still complete the above renewal process, but one of the following late fees will be required:

  • $25 late fee (if submitted less than 45 days before expiration and up to 6 months after)
  • $50 late fee (if submitted 6–12 months after expiration)
  • $100 renewal fee + $100 late fee (if submitted 12+ months). In addition to the standard renewal training, candidates must also repeat the original foundational training
  • CARC: 60 hrs | CRPA: 50 hrs (must be different from original training): https://www.asapnys.org/ny-certification-board/nycb-approved-training/
  • IC&RC Exam NOT required again for CRPA
